It has been a while but I am back with a little poem I made up yesterday. There are a few rhythmic problems but it wasn't worth perfecting. It made me smile on a day that I thought I may lose my mind.

Snow Day?!?!?!
We had a nice snow fall last night and they say more is coming. It is supposed to be windy and blow all over too. So I guess I won't be running tonight. Makes me glad I went a couple miles last night before the snow started.
Jasper County does not have school today but, thankfully, my kids don't know that. :) We are having a full day of school today. Actually, "full day" only takes about till lunch so we are nearly done. We read some more about Abe Lincoln and started answering some questions about him. Right now they are building a log cabin (thank you Lincoln Logs) just like Abe did with Pa in our story today. I added handwriting back in to the day with Aiden. He doesn't really like it but is having some trouble with a few letters. It is a minor part of his day at this point. I also added some "P.E." Really just a little something to break up the seat work. Today we balanced little rocks on long handled spoons and raced around the house. They loved it.
Griffin seems to be getting into more and more trouble during school time. Yesterday he turned himself into a smurf with a blue marker. The other day I discovered he had colored purple crayon on our front door. So I am trying to find ways to let him have school with us. He needs something to do while the big boys are working. Today I let him glue foam pieces onto foam "paper." Regular paper does not work with this kid and glue...he uses WAY too much. Maverick also wants to do math but isn't ready for "real" math work yet...so I'm trying to figure something out. And I think I just found it....file folder games. I've tried them before but I forgot about them after I made them. I don't even know where they are. So I found some free ones online...download, print, stick in a file folder and you are ready to go. I am making a couple for Griffin (color matching) and a math one for Maverick(haven't decided which one yet). We'll see how we like them. If it keeps them out of trouble I will be THRILLED!!! When I get them done maybe I'll post pictures. The ones I am using for now I found at www.filefolderfun.com.
Tonight is Biggest Loser Night at the Cessna house! Friends are coming over like they always do (YIPPEE!!) Tonight on the menu is a Taco Bar! Yummy! Well, that is the scoop for today! :)

Monday Morning!
Well, Monday has rolled around again and my head is spinning. We had a whirlwind weekend.
Saturday evening some friends of Shane's from the "old days" renewed their wedding vows so we made the trek to Flora with the boys. It was actually a really good time! It made for a late night.
We visited another new church on Sunday morning. We really enjoyed the service and the children's program was good. We are going to go back and see what we think another time. It is a big church so it may be difficult to get involved but at this point we have no interest in being involved anyway.
We watched the Superbowl at a good friend's house. Actually, Shane and Derek watched football while Elisabeth, Cherish and I played Dominoes and watched during the commercials. I have to say Doritoes win the best commercial award in my expert opinion!!! The kids all had a great time and only got in trouble a handful of times. It was a success!!!! :) And Shane and Derek were both rooting for The Saints so they were also pleased with the outcome.
This week we are studying Abraham Lincoln for school work. Friday is his birthday afterall and he is from Illinois. We are reading a story of his life that is really interesting for the boys (I think). Aiden is learning +8 and to solve for "x" (without using those words)in addition problems in math and both big boys are plugging along in phonics. For school today, Griffin colored all over himself with blue marker. We are all working at our own levels as you can see!
I am hosting an Usborne party on Thursday. If you are close and want to come by it is from 6:30-9, come and go as you please. I will have snacks and anyone who places an order will be put in a drawing to win the free hostess books. Come on over!!!
Now I need to get to cleaning the house so I am not embarrassed when all of you come over on Thursday!!! :)

A new thing!
I did something totally new last night and it was the best thing ever!!! Well, maybe not that great but it was a load of fun! A friend and I went to a new Zumba Class in Newton. First of all, there has never been anything like this in Newton. Second of all, it was GREAT!!! The teachers were new to teaching it and only 2 or 3 of the probably 100 women had ever done it before.
With great music, great dance steps, and lots of laughing...it was a great time! Lots of cha-cha, meringue, belly dancing, hula, and then basic dance steps to keep us having a great time.
And I am a little sore this morning in my "core." Since that is the area I would really like to see a change, I am excited by a workout that focuses there. :)
Back to running this afternoon unless the rain doesn't let up...I don't like running in the cold and wet. Cold is fine unless you get wet. And I'll keep the yoga poses going on the Wii too. I just wish I could lose the pounds I'm counting calories to lose...I guess that will happen if I keep at it.

It's February already?!?!?!
It is hard to believe that January of 2010 has come and gone. I haven't even practiced writing 2010 since I don't really write checks anymore. It will be 2011 before I'm consistently using 2010. The weather is still well, icky. Gray days, cold nights, and not even a little snow to brighten the landscape around here. But inside with the fire burning in the stove and friends over every Tuesday (that's today, Yeah!) we are having a great start to the new year. A weight loss challenge with those friends is going well (mostly well for Shane so far I've gained a pound).
Shane spoke at a small church in Hidalgo last Sunday. He actually filled in for the minister during Sunday morning church. He was nervous but he did a great job. His message was recorded to send in to Creation Ministries International for approval. If they approve, he will be given speaking engagements in this area from them. We are hopeful.
Aiden finally lost a tooth the old fashioned way. Last fall he had to have 2 baby teeth pulled because the big teeth came in too far back and didn't push the babies out. This one got loose and disgusting. After much weeping and gnashing of teeth (pun intended), the tooth finally fell out in my hand. I think Shane was disappointed because he dealt with all the hysterics and I was the "lucky" one who "pulled" the tooth. Just like the guy who finally gets the lid off the pickle jar when everyone else has loosened it up first. haha After it was out, Aiden was thrilled and Shane and I were both a little disgusted with all the theatrics. The tooth fairy gave him a dollar and he is trying to find another to wiggle.
The big boys did get to spend a winter afternoon outside with Pappy this weekend. True to form, Pappy threw safety to the wind and helped them make a luge (like at the olympics). In his defense, I'm sure they were not in mortal danger at any time. They knocked the ice down in the ditches where the water had frozen and then run out. That created a tunnel of ice. He pulled them and then whipped them by to get them going fast and then let go. I guess they went down the "luge" and bounced off the sides and loved it. They also threw pieces of ice across a frozen pond and watched how far it went. They had a great time and no injuries were sustained.
We are doing a unit on Knights and Castles for school right now. Learning about how to become a knight and why castles were built and armor and weapons, etc etc. With boys in the house it has been a huge hit! They woke up and played knights before I was even out of bed. One evening they made Shane and I crowns and we were the king and queen. (they pretend to be Jacks which shows they prefer card playing to medieval history). To finish out the unit we are learning about chivalry and heraldry. We will write our own code of chivalry and they will each draw their own coat of arms. Then on to the next unit----Abraham Lincoln. :)
Aiden now has a cough and snotty nose and may be losing his voice. It makes sleeping and all that hard. He still feels good enough to play and all but then coughs and gets all mad about it. At least, it is just a cough which is so much easier to deal with than stomach or digestive issues. :)
I guess that's about it for now. Things go by day to day and nothing seems particularly exciting...but there is always something going on. I'm off to start school and make bread. Tonight our friends are coming over and we are having "international night." I don't know what all we are having but it is all supposed to have international flare. I'm making baguettes and have some Brie. Cherish was a missionary in Puerto Rico and she is in charge of the main dish and drink. And the Martell's are bringing dessert...it is going to be fun!!! The kids may not agree! lol!

Mermaid or Whale?!?!?
This is a "forward" I got from one of my best friends...made me smile.
Recently, in a large city in France, a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman appeared
in the window of a gym. It said, "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?" A
middle-aged woman, whose physical characteristics did not match those of the woman
on the poster, responded publicly to the question posed by the gym.
To Whom It May Concern,
Whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, sea lions, curious humans). They
have an active sex life, get pregnant and have adorable baby whales. They have a wonderful
time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp. They play and swim in the seas, seeing
wonderful places like Patagonia, the Bering Sea and the coral reefs of Polynesia . Whales are
wonderful singers and have even recorded CDs. They are incredible creatures and have
virtually no predators other than humans. They are loved, protected and admired by almost everyone in the world.
Mermaids don't exist.
If they did exist, they would be lining up outside the offices of Argentinean
psychoanalysts due to identity crisis. Fish or human? They don't have a sex life because they
kill men who get close to them, not to mention how could they have sex? Just look at them ...
where is IT? Therefore, they don't have kids either. Not to mention, who wants to get close
to a girl who smells like a fish store?
The choice is perfectly clear to me: I want to be a whale.
P..S. We are in an age when media puts into our heads the idea that only skinny people are
beautiful, but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids, a good dinner with a man who
makes me shiver, and a piece of chocolate with my friends. With time, we gain weight because
we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured,
educated and happy.
Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, ¨Good grief, look how smart I am!¨

Busy Busy Busy
We ran around like crazy people this weekend...and I think are still recovering. :( We're having some rough days the last couple.
Anyway, on Saturday mom and I met my sister at the Amish Grocery we love so much. I got all kinds of good stuff! And spent so little comparatively. I just love that place!!! Heather took us to a new restaurant. It was called the Flat Top Grill. It is a neat place and the food was good. You pick all your raw ingredients (like a salad bar) and then your sauces and meat and they stir fry it for you. Nice! The waitress helped me with my sauce and although it was good she added a bit too much horseradish. Yikes! Next time I'll do my own sauce.
That evening we had a meeting with one of our elders to discuss some things at church. We were at his house until after midnight. We'd been talking for about 5 hours. I am not sure what I think will happen next. I think that both elders we've met with listened and are going to investigate but I'm not sure what will come of it, if anything. We are currently visiting other churches. Well, we skipped this time cause we just didn't get out of bed.
Then Sunday afternoon we had a birthday party to attend. Maverick's future wife, and my best friend's daughter turned 4. They rented the local roller skating rink and we got to take bikes and play for 2 hours. Although they invited several families, it was just us and them. Aiden and Maverick both wanted to skate. I was surprised at how well they did by the end of the 2 hours. I think we are going to get several families together and rent it again. It is cheaper than going during all skate hours and the floor is emptier and we can take bikes so that Griffin can play. It was SO much fun....and a great workout.
We are getting ready for our Biggest Loswer party and weigh in tonight. Oddly, it is one of the highlights of my week because it is so nice to get together with some friends and visit and eat and be relaxed. Each week we do a pot luck that we *try* to keep pretty healthy. Tonight we are having black bean chili burgers with a big side salad. It should be pretty good for us and they are YUMMY!!!! I've already made one dressing for the salad and am off to make another before I feed the boys lunch and put them down for naps. We need to be happier people before our friends come over tonight.
